For the collection, Kim Jones went into the Fendi archive, inspired by sketches from a collection first presented by Karl Lagerfeld in 1979 which featured hot pops of colour and tube tops, the perfect Fendi fits for this moment. “The innovation in fabrics and fit typical to SKIMS paired with the luxury and quality of Fendi may feel unexpected to some people, but the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned,” says Kim Kardashian West. “It’s that tension that excites me.”  Fashion tension.

“The idea for the collaboration came about when my team and I were sitting around a table at the studio in Rome,” says Jones. “Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking at their phones. I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new Skims collection. It was then that I thought: let’s do something together.” It’s a powerful, clever collaboration. For the campaign, Kardashian West chose her holy trinity of photographers: Donna Trope, Vanessa Beecroft and Steven Meisel. The Fendi x Skims universe exists on another planet, one where KKW reigns supreme and everyone wears Fendi Baguette bags with their shapewear. We can only dream.
