SOPHIA NEOPHITOU-APOSTOLOU TO RECEIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD AT FASHION AWARDS
We are beaming with pride at Ten Towers, with the news that 10 Magazine founder and global Editor-in-Chief, Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, will receive a Special Recognition Award at The Fashion Awards 2024, which will be held at The Royal Albert Hall on December 2.
The Special Recognition Award honours outstanding contribution to the fashion industry and is a tribute Sophia’s 30 years at the forefront of creativity. After switching from architecture to fashion, she began her career at British Vogue (assisting Sarah Mower, no less). She made her mark in newspapers, working at The Evening Standard, The Independent before launching 10 Magazine in 2000. 10 Men launched in 2003 and 10+ launched in 2018.
Her intention, from the first issue, was to create a platform for freedom of expression and creativity in the fashion industry. 25 years later, her mission remains the same and she heads an expanding global publishing empire which includes the London-based 10 Magazine, 10 Australia (launched in 2014), 10 USA (launched in September 2023), 10 Japan (launching September 2024) and 10 Deutsch (launching March 2025). With more international editions planned, Neophitou-Apostolou is proving that print, when done with passion, creativity and innovation, is most definitely not dead.
10 Magazine is only one part of her story. She served as Fashion Director and Creative Director of publications such as The Sunday Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue China, Vogue Japan and Russian Vogue, while also contributing to Dazed & Confused, i-D, Italian Vogue and Purple. She has also worked alongside some of the most exciting designers including Antonio Berardi, Roland Mouret, Richard Nicoll, Katharine Hamnett, Sinha Stanic and Elie Saab and for ten years was the Collection Creative Director of Victoria Secret. She also chairs the BFC Press Committee. Driven by curiosity and kindness, the Alaïa-clad editor has a reputation as one of the most approachable people on the front row.
In a statement she said: “I am truly honoured to be receiving the Special Recognition Award. I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love and am passionate about every single day and being part of a team that treasures our world as much as I do. I feel lucky to have worked so closely with the BFC for over 20 years and have been the head of the press committee for a decade. We have effected so much positive change in our industry and seen it grow and flourish. It has been a true privilege to be recognised at the Fashion Awards. I want to thank my amazing team at 10 who without them, none of this would be a reality and all the brilliant inspirational creatives in every corner of my world who’ve been with me on my journey and filled it with beauty and fantasy I could never have imagined possible, truly a dream every single day.”
Bravo Sophia, we salute you!
