Chanel has announced the location of its next Métiers d’Art showcase! Taking place December 3, the runway will be set in the city of Hangzhou in China, indicating that despite the recent departure of former creative director Virginie Viard, the brand’s schedule remains on track.

Known as Paradise on Earth, the city is famed for its beauty, with temples, pagodas and gardens aplenty. Reflecting Chanel’s commitment to its Chinese customer base, the show will mark the first Métiers d’Art line shown in the region since 2009 and follows the maison’s Manchester display, which took place in December of last year.

Speaking on the decision to host the show in Hangzhou, Bruno Pavlovsky, the brand’s president of fashion, told WWD it was because of the city’s connection with the Coromandel lacquer screens in founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s Paris apartment. “It’s an exceptional destination in China and it’s very inspiring for the Métiers d’Art collection. It’s the real landscape that inspired the screens that are in the apartment,” he said, “these screens are intriguing. There’s a whole story behind them, even if it is imaginary. We’ve had the opportunity to visit Hangzhou several times and we felt it had the same mysterious atmosphere. It has all the ingredients to make for something exceptional, unique, that has never been done before.”

Celebrating the special capabilities of Chanel’s ateliers, the show will not be one to miss.
