DEREK RIDGERS' ODE TO NICK CAVE'S STYLE
Throughout his career, Derek Ridgers has immersed himself in London youth culture and life lived on the dancefloors of the city’s most influential underground clubs. The legendary photographer – and regular 10 Magazine collaborator – spent the 1980s photographing London punks and the Blitz Kids, meeting a slew of creative chameleons along the way. One of them being the inimitable Nick Cave, who’s the subject of Ridgers latest coffee table book.
Titled Grace, the book is made up of material gathered from four shoots with Cave photographed in 1984, 1989, 1992 and 1997, all when Ridgers was a freelance photographer for various music publications. The images resurfaced as Ridgers organised his archive during lockdown, many of which have never been seen before.
The book illustrates a shift in Cave’s style in the aftermath of The Birthday Party’s break-up and the formation of The Bad Seeds. Limited to 1000 copies, each book comes in its own slipcase, with rich blue cloth coating its exterior. The perfect Christmas gift for a Nick Cave super fan.
