GIORGIO ARMANI: SS25
Milan might be where you’d normally find Giorgio Armani but there’s nothing quite like New York City. The brand decided to go off-calendar and decamp across the Atlantic, for a multi-day celebration of their newly redesigned Madison Avenue building that culminated in a a glamorous black-tie runway show. Last night Mr. Armani transformed the Park Avenue Armory into a scene straight out of a movie. “New York, for me, has always been linked to the many films that have deeply shaped my imagination,” Mr.Armani said. And just like that, the spring summer 2025 show had a cinematic-worthy opening scene with the opening model dressed in full grey look complete with high boots, walking out in the company of a porter carrying two suitcases, suggesting a sense of voyage.
Naturally, a good film needs equally as high-profile stars, and the front row did not disappoint with the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Pamela Anderson, and Gemma Chan among others. But when the spotlight dimmed from the celebrities, the true main characters came to life in the form of classic Armani silhouettes. Inspired by the past but nodding to the future, it was equal parts the 1930s as well as decidedly 2025. The boudoir-mood dresses are soft and easy while masculine hats cast a shadow, hiding half the face. Colours and textures complimented each other as satin’s luminosity is enhanced by a palette of grey and sandy shades, punctuated by turquoise, navy and teal. Then there were leather trench coats and jacquard jackets that introduced playfulness next to silk pantsuits.
Being that it’s Giorgio Armani, evening is chic as ever. With fluid textures and a sense of effort elegance you’ll find plenty of swishing tassels and iridescent sequins embellished gowns. One standout look, consisting of a tie that flips to sit on the shoulder is particular worth nothing: Mr. Armani created the illusion of movement to great success and gave it a punch of humour. But perhaps that could be said about the collection as a whole – there was a witticism. All the glitter and glamour can speak to a vintage journey or resonate with the modernity of a city that never sleeps. ”More vital and frenetic than ever, New York continues to look ahead, ever launching new models of life, style and socialising,” Mr. Armani said.
As for the new building, it’s redesigned in partnership with SL Green Realty Corp. and CookFox Architects, and follows the sustainability practices that have become core to the brand. Everything from reducing energy consumption to sourcing from renewable resources have been factored in, to minimise environmental impact. Housing Giorgio Armani, Armani/Casa boutiques, Armani/Ristorante, and the luxurious Giorgio Armani Residences, it’s become a hub for the brand. With a classic palette of neutrals and black that recalls the timeless style of 1980s power suiting, it could not be more fitting for New York City.
