HERMÉS COLLABORATES WITH TROY EMERY
We know Christmas is coming when Hermès unveils its summer holiday window in Sydney. This year, Hermès has worked with multimedia artist Troy Emery to create something extra fabulous, with the window scenography spilling seamlessly into the store.
L’Artificier Reimagined is a fresh interpretation of Hermès’ iconic L’Artificier sculpture, also known as the “firework man.” First created in 1987, the original L’Artificier stood atop a replica of the Paris Faubourg store that floated down the Seine, launching fireworks from his hands to commemorate Hermès’ 150th anniversary. Today, L’Artificier graces the rooftops of five Hermès Maison’s worldwide. Outside the Sydney store, you can spot him looking down from a neighbouring building.
This reimagining is part of Hermès’ 2024 annual theme ‘In the Spirit of the Faubourg’. Inside the store, Emery envisions L’Artificier in full cavalier regalia, heroic, holding silk scarf flags aloft on gilded poles, welcoming visitors into the Sydney Trust flagship.
For the window display, L’Artificier is crafted from vibrant pompoms, dismounted and at rest in his stable he gazes out atCastlereagh Street. Beside him is another Hermès icon: the Hautà Courroies, the first Hermès bag, originally designed in the early 20th century to carry equestrian boots and saddles. It’s a great mix of art and heritage, drawing us sneakily into the world of Hermès. Where we must dream - and shop.
