JW ANDERSON: SS25
Sometimes setting limits is a good thing. JW Anderson restricted himself to just four fabrications: silk, wool, leather and sequins. Drilling deep into the possibilities of each he came up with flying saucer leather mini skirts, macro knit mini dresses, fully sequinned short shifts and blanket skirts, and trompe l’oeil silk shifts marked with the imprints of other less glamorous garments like hoodies and cardigans as well as flaring little dresses rendered in Anderson’s favourite silk paisleys.
Less is more and Anderson was at his inventive and playful best when manipulating proportions – blowing up the weave of a knit to giant size for one dress and creating bubble hems and jutting skirts. The act of stripping back was a palette cleanser of sorts. Afterwards the designer said he already had his eye on the next decade and the new fashion attitudes it will bring. His models blasted past quite a clip, indicating he’s in a hurry to get there.
