TEN QUESTIONS WITH MADISON BEER
Madison Beer is soaring to new heights on the new single, Spinnin. Ahead of the LA-based artist's second studio album Silence Between Songs, set for release on September 15, the new single marks a new level for Madison's songwriting, music-making and confidence. Inspired by The Beatles' looping Yesterday, the song spins on cleverly and endlessly. We spoke to the singer, songwriter, producer and author about creating the track:
We’re obsessed with your new single! Tell us about the origin story of ‘Spinnin’.
I wrote Spinnin years ago in my producer's house, and it came to be because we were writing a song about feeling like you’re in an endless cycle of anxiety. I wanted this song to feel like you don’t know when it was going to start or end.
Why was this the right song to start the album with?
It always felt like the perfect opener because I feel like it represents a lot of the things I went through all writing this album.
We love the visuals for this song (of what we’ve seen so far). We especially love the new album cover. It feels so free. Tell us about creating the visuals for this album - what did you hope to evoke and create? How were you feeling while dreaming up this world?
Thank you, I love the new album cover too. It definitely embodies what I think the album sounds like and represents really how I felt after turning it in and making it. I always had a very clear vision of what I wanted Spinnin to look like and honestly, I always wanted one of the album cover to look like this as well so I’m extremely happy with how it turned out.
We’re so excited for Silence Between Songs. What a great title! How did your process creating this album differ to your previous album?
I feel like I learned a lot after finishing Life Support that I was able to channel and tune into creating Silence Between Songs. Torb specifically helped me a lot. I learned that I need to make songs that I’m proud of and want to perform forever.
How do you think you’ve evolved sonically creating this album?
I think I have evolved into such an awesome place. I feel very confident in the music I’m making and I’m excited to see what my next album or sound is like because I feel like I am ever changing.
And how do you think you’ve evolved personally through this chapter?
I feel like if Life Support me saw current me she wouldn’t believe her eyes. I’m so proud of the person I’ve become.
What do you hope people take from this album?
i hope people love it and I hope it makes people feel less alone.
Is there an anecdote from ‘Spinnin’ or something from making the album that people don’t know yet that you can share with us?
To be honest, not really, haha.
You obviously have such great musical influences - who have you recently discovered that has sparked inspiration for you?
I’m constantly discovering new artists and new music, so it’s very hard to name one specifically. But I love the place that music is in and I also love referencing the place music was in years ago.
What’s next?
Who knows!
