THE AUSTRALIAN BALLET: ANNA KARENINA

|
Written By:

And so to Sydney Opera House to immerse in a performance by The Australian Ballet of Anna Karenina. Full throttle, immersive from the Finn Ross cinematic scrim and its almost Orwellian black and white real time footage of the dancers to the epic score by the brilliant Ilya Demutsky the audience is sucked in. Shades of Abel Gance’s epic Napoleon. Acclaimed choreographer Yuri Possohkov has created a master work of modernity - tender, sad and compelling. The costumes by Tom Pye suffuse the performance with a lightness and joy and yet mirror the fragile storytelling as it descends into the inevitable gloom. The Australian Ballet with the visionary and passionate creative eye of David Hallberg is humming, full throttle, this performance is a dream.
