Voices of a generation have come together with Calvin Klein for the brand's new CK One campaign. Curating a group of trailblazing youth, Calvin Klein shot eleven individuals across America against the backdrop of their hometowns. We spoke to Jawn Davis, the Los Angeles native who has spent most of his life in Compton skateboarding, creating music and repurposing thrifted clothes. He is exactly what this generation is all about: doing what he wants, what he loves, with purpose, passion and hope for the future.

When did you begin skateboarding? How does it make you feel? What do you love about it?

"Well I originally started skateboarding because of a skate park that opened up down the street from me. And I'm so glad it did because it makes me feel so free. There's no rules. I don't like rules."

Where is your favourite place to skate?

"I don't know. I don't think I have a favourite place to skate right now. As long as there's vibes. I'm there."

What do you think being from LA has taught you?

"LA has taught me so much but it most importantly allowed me to see both sides of the coin. The fortunate and unfortunate reside in a 30 mile radius."

We hear you create music - what kind of music?

"Yeah! I love creating and making music. I usually make what I'm feeling at the moment. Or try to recreate how I felt in certain situations. My studio is always with me. Young thug concert by JAWN, streaming on all platforms right now !!!"

Which artists have inspired you?

"Pharrell inspires me. [Jean-Michel] Basquiat inspires me. Tyler[, the Creator] inspires me. They're all legendary."

Who would you love to collaborate with?

"I would love to collaborate with Charlie Wilson, his vocal range & melodies are crazy. I feel like we would make something smooth."

When did you start thrifting? What do you love about fashion?

"I don't know about you, but I hated wearing the same brands as everyone else. I loved the fact that thrifted clothes were 1 of 1. So I started thrifting when I was about 16 years old. Since I can remember I've always been into style. I used to pick up like 10 magazines – all skateboarding –  and obsess over the new sneakers that were coming out or my favourite skaters fit."

How does it feel to be a part of such an iconic brand's campaign? What do you love about CK?

"There's no other words but ICONIC to describe the feeling working with a brand like Calvin Klein. They helped highlight my creative ventures & my story as an up in coming artist. While pushing to unite this generation into “one future.” Calvin Klein's ENERGY is DEFINITELY REAL."

What do you hope for the future of your generation?

"I would hope for my generation to continue to break down social barriers. And be awake and aware of the powers that try to divide us."

How do you hope to use your growing platform?

"Whether it's modelling, skating, music, or making clothing. I've always used my platform to motivate others. I just want to do next level creative things & keep my 16 year old self hyped."
