CHANEL: SS25
Back inside the Grand Palais we strode, the rightful home of a Chanel show. The Spring Summer 2025 show marked the first collection for the House since Virginie Viard departed in June this year. This season, the Creation Studio took over duties, inspired by the idea of letting go and “flying up in the air,” as the show notes read. The bright, light space saw a mega pristine white Chanel-stamped bird cage in the centre of the room, immediately reminiscent of Vanessa Paradis’ 1991 Chanel campaign directed by Jean-Paul Goude. To the Creation Studio, it perhaps symbolised taking flight, taking risks and the freedom of fleeing the cage. With its benches and chairs below, it took on a dreamlike, garden feel. Chanel in Wonderland. In fact, it was Riley Keogh in Wonderland. The actress and musician came out to sit sky-high on a swing in the cage, belting Prince’s When Doves Cry as the Chanel girls glided throughout the show space underneath. They came in white mini tweed shorts, flowing chiffon capes, flared denim, and lots of feathers. It was about creating delicate movement and a graceful flow to the clothes, yet grounded in its purpose: a collection dedicated to women who “freed themselves”. We felt free, we felt light and we felt excited for the next chapter of Chanel.
