TEN QUESTIONS WITH CHARLOTTE CARDIN

In the aftermath of the brilliant Chanel AW25 show inside the Grand Palais, we caught up with Canadian singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin. Charlotte is the artist to know, with a captivating voice, cool tone and clever lyricism. And she's an ultimate Chanel girl. We talked to Cardin about the collection and what she's been up to:
Which of your songs would be the perfect soundtrack to the collection shown today?
Oh wow, that's such a good question. Definitely a song that has like a lot of contrast in it. So maybe my song Confetti. Because I did notice that all of the looks were very contrasted. Some were more flowy, some more structured, and I really love that. So I think my song Confetti, it has a very lowkey chorus, but then it's party vibes in the the verses.
How does it feel to be at a Chanel show today?
It feels amazing. It's really nice to be back at the Grand Palais. The last time I was at a Chanel show was a little bit over a year ago and it was at the temporary Grand Palais set up. It's always so lovely here. And the collection was really beautiful, so it's lovely to be here.
Tell us about your look today?
So, today I'm wearing something that I love. These Bermuda shorts that kind of look like they're denim, but they're more like a tweed situation. And with a very colourfu jacket and a very structured white collar with a bunch of little body chains and fancy belts. From the Cruise Marseille collection.
What was your favourite look from the show today?
I think my favourite look was one of the first ones. Really hard to choose, but I loved the chiffon over the tweed pieces. I thought that was brilliant. I loved the first four looks, especially the pink one.
What do you wear when you're in studio, recording?
Very, very casual. I love wearing jeans. I always wear very loose baggy jeans. Always low rise, cause I don't like the too tight. I just love chilling and being comfortable.
Has Paris been a place of inspiration for you?
Very much so. I find it so inspiring. I mainly live here now, I still have an apartment in Montreal, but every day when I step outside here, even just seeing the architecture, the people, how dynamic the city is... all of those things are really inspiring for my music.
How has your writing process changed and evolved, particularly over the last year?
I write a lot about my personal life and so much has happened in the last year. I was touring pretty much non stop with my album So a lot of distance, a lot of missing my friends and my family, lots of crazy amazing adventures on the road going to new countries I had never been before. So I think all of those things influenced my writing a lot. It's just been such a crazy year in a lot of ways and that's good inspiration for my songs.
Who is your dream collaboration with?
I think my ultimate dream collab would be with Frank Ocean.
Chanel loves literature. What have you read recently that you love?
So right now I'm reading a book, which I love called Horse Heaven. It won the Pulitzer Prize, I think in 2002, something like that. I thought it was a children's book, but it really isn't. It's about horse racing competitions and horse training. It's so interesting, reading about the relationships between the people. So that's what I'm reading.
What's next?
I'm working on the next album right now. So, album number three. I'm in the studio all through the spring. New songs, new material, new album.
