TEN TALKS TO ANNA LUNOE

|
Written By:

Big Lunoe energy is today's energy, as inspired by producer, radio host and musician, Anna Lunoe. The Australian artist, who hosts Apple Music's weekly danceXL show, recently released her new high energy, clever produced EP Saturday Love. Amidst touring the world with a series of festival shows this year (including Coachella and Splendour) we caught up with Anna to talk about Saturday Love and reconnecting with the club sound she became known for:

What is different about the world of Anna Lunoe this era? How has your sound and vision evolved?

"My whole life rhythm has changed completely - the amount I play, what country I base myself in, how I spend the majority of my time. Some things have stayed the same, the inspiration points, but the time I can spend exploring those ideas is more extensive now. As a result I think the work is getting better."

Where did you create this EP? What was inspiring you when you were producing it?

"I made it mostly in my home studio in lockdown. Some ideas had been written in different times in the 5 years earlier but it all came together production wise through the lens of 2022 Anna. I am inspired by emerging club music from the UK and Australia right now mostly and I think the music reflects that."

What is special about love on a Saturday? :)

"Well, that song was written back in 2015 on a perfect Saturday morning where I felt in my skin and like anything was possible. It happened to be a Saturday but it really represents those moments you feel in your skin and alive. Present. Not wishing for another moment but fully aware that the one you are living is precious and passing."

We love that. Who would you still love to work with?

"I really don't feel the need to work with anyone else right now. I have done a lot of that and for me now it's about enjoying my time creating. That said, creating with others is one of my favourite ways to connect with inspiring people. It's been a catalyst for finding some of my favourite friends on this earth. It's an extension of meeting someone cool and getting to know them sometimes for me and I'm always open to that!"

How has it been playing all these shows again? Are you a different performer now?

"I think I'm fresher and braver. I don't play as often now since the pandemic and relocation, but the big Lunoe energy beast is still very much alive and lurking, waiting for an opportunity to go into overdrive whenever she gets the chance."

We love your Apple Music show. What have you learnt from doing a weekly radio show? What have you loved about working with Apple Music?

"I think radio has taught me so much about flow and delivery. I can't believe what I'm capable of doing when I get out of my own way and work passionately to a deadline. It's something that I use in all areas of my life now, go hard, be focussed, have fun then let it go when it's deadline. BAM. There's a motto for life."

What is something (other than music) that you’re super passionate about?

"The environment! I'm really focused on using my platform to help shift consumerism habits - how we buy food and clothing, how we run our homes and do things in the most meaningful and holistic way we can. Shifting away from blind consumerism without consequence and understanding that there is an environmental cost to all that we do and it needs to be factored into all our decisions."

Where would you love for people to listen to the EP for the first time? How do you hope they feel?

"My hope is for people to put this on when they want to feel alive and ready for anything. First thing in the morning to rev them up for the day, driving to work, getting ready for a night out - whenever they wanna feel in their skin, rowdy and alive."
