YULIYA MAGDYCH ON HOW TO HELP UKRAINE

|
Written By:

As the terror and war in Ukraine continues, we spoke to Ukrainian designers about what they are facing and how we can continue to effectively help the people of Ukraine and the industry. Next up is Julia Magdych of Yuliya Magdych. Read her statement below:

I am focused now more than ever, as I have to basically start everything from scratch. And I also have to do it in a very short period of time. I need to evacuate the production, to establish everything in Western Ukraine, without even having the confidence that it all won’t be destroyed by bombs here, too. However, the most important thing for me now is to support my team. A lot of people from my team had to leave their houses, one of my employees has already lost her home, and our director has joined the Territorial Defence Forces.

As for the support of the world’s fashion industry, of course, we are all truly grateful when the colours of the Ukrainian flag appear on the world’s biggest podiums, or when a brand like Balenciaga posts the Ukrainian flag, deleting everything else from its page.

However, real support is always related to particular actions. There are, undoubtedly, many ways that the fashion industry can help Ukrainian designers. For example, the international fashion community could launch prizes and grants for Ukrainian designers, so that they can continue with their careers; famous fashion houses could invite Ukrainian creatives to work with them; fashion brands could offer Ukrainian designers to collaborate; online fashion platforms could give top positions to the Ukrainian brands to make them more visible.
